Terms as they are used across this documentation. Where the product UI uses a different word for the same thing, the UI word is given — the UI avoids technical vocabulary on purpose.

Term UI word Meaning
Block Block The smallest editable unit of content. A folder under app/Blocks/ defines its fields and its output.
Block pack Block pack A zip of blocks and templates that an Admin can import. Data and templates only — it cannot run code.
Block registry — The service that discovers block folders and feeds the editor. Admin code never names a block type.
Column Column A vertical division inside a section, 1–12 units wide, holding blocks.
Content tree — The JSON document (sections -> columns -> blocks) that is a page, a header, a footer or a mega panel.
Context — Where a block may be used: page, part or mega.
Current version — pages.current_version_id — the published tree. The draft is separate.
Draft Draft Unpublished work, in pages.draft_content or template_parts.draft_content. Autosaved, never public.
Field type — The kind of input a block field uses (text, image, repeater, …). The admin form is generated from these.
Global block Saved section (reusable) A section stored once and referenced by many pages. Editing it updates all of them.
HTML cache — Rendered public pages written to files under storage/app/kodepress-cache/ and served from disk.
Invalidation — Deleting cache entries that a change made wrong. Owned by CacheInvalidator alone.
Kind — The type of a template part: header, footer, topbar, announcement.
Layout Layout A Blade wrapper chosen per page (pages.layout), deciding the page shell — not the header/footer.
Location Location A named slot a menu is intended for (header, footer-1, mobile, …). A hint, not a binding.
Mega menu Mega menu A menu item whose dropdown is a full content tree, edited with the page editor.
Outline Outline The left-hand tree view of a page in the editor.
Page Page / Post A row in pages. type distinguishes page, post and landing. A post is a page.
Part Header / Footer A row in template_parts — the site chrome, edited with the same editor as a page.
Path URL The full resolved public path of a page (about/team), stored on the row and uniquely indexed.
Permalink pattern Blog URL format The template that generates a post's path (blog/{slug}).
Preset (header) Header style A starting layout for a header or footer. After it is applied, the tree is freely editable.
Preset (theme) Theme A complete set of token values (default, warm, fresh, dark).
Resolver (block) — A class that fetches the data a block needs (posts, menu items) before rendering, so the view stays a template.
Resolver (part) — PartResolver, which picks the header/footer for a page by rule specificity.
Section Section A full-width horizontal band of a page, holding columns. Sections never nest.
Section gallery Add section The picker of ready-made section designs. There is no blank-first path.
Specificity — The fixed score per condition type (all 10 … pages 50, per-page override 100) that decides which part applies.
Template Template A saved design: a page, a section, a header or a footer, reusable when creating new things.
Template part Header / Footer See Part.
Theme tokens Theme The named colours, fonts, spacing and radii that every block references. One source of truth for the look.
Tour Getting started The 5-step guided onboarding on first login.
Upcaster — Code that reads an old content-tree format version and returns the current one, applied on read so old versions keep rendering.
Usage index — Derived lists (page -> media, page -> global blocks, …) kept in the cache for safe deletes and targeted invalidation.
Version History An append-only snapshot of a published tree (page_versions, template_part_versions). Restoring loads it into the draft.
Visibility rules Show this item when Per-menu-item conditions on role, login state, device and language. Role and language are server-side; device is CSS.
Zone Top bar / Main / Sticky A named section list inside a template part.
